U.S. Troops Fleeing A War

Just read an interesting article about current Iraq was deserters. They are fleeing to Canada for asylum, thinking that in the past the Canadian government opened its doors to US deserters for the Vietnam war that they will do it again. Well Canada is turning theses deserters back around and shipping them back to the U.S. I mean, I can understand that some people do not agree with the war in Iraq or how our administration is handling the issues. People are dying over there; a lot of them are kids. The US military is a “VOLUNTEER” service. No one is forced to join the military, you make the choice to go to a recruiter and sign up to be a part of the military. Whatever the reason you had to join, YOU made that decision. You are not signing up to service when times are good and you agree with everything you are being told to do. Anyone in the military knows that most of your job you do not agree with what your superiors all the time. But you do the job; you do not desert, especially in a time of war. As a military service member you have an obligation to your service, to your country and to yourself to continue to do your duty until your contract is up. When you have fulfilled the obligation you yourself sighed up for, leave the military. That way you can go on to do a job where you will agree with the decisions that are made 100%. It is just embarrassing when they are justifying why they deserted. There is no excuse; you made the choice to join an organization that goes to war. There was no draft for Iraq, all volunteer. I am not saying going over to Iraq is easy, it is hard. That is why the US military is voluntary; we do the hard jobs so others do not have to. Military service is a pain; you leave your family and are in conditions that normal people would find horrific. But many men and women stick it out and do their time. Many decide to stay and make a career out of it. There is no justification to desert, to turn your back on your country and the men and women you have trained with. Canada will not take you and you do not want to be in America, why don’t you try to go to Iraq, I am sure that will take deserters.
